Who sometimes walking in a forest, or along a river or a lake, never found his way on bicycle cuts, burned vehicles, tires and other industrial varied wastes ? This phenomenon doesn’t concern a particular region, it is found almost everywhere in every country, and I end up believing that if one place is a little less dirt, it is only thanks to the local authorities or associations which are a slightly more effective to clean this pollution traces. I could almost get used to it eventually if I was not disgusted whenever I see these examples of uncivil and irresponsible. : (

I guess we, all of us, may do better than that, right?

Best examples :

A framework of a car, half-burned half-rusted, which probably lies here since several years in the forest of Rambouillet …

In the same subject, a rusted cans abandoned on a beach in the south of France.

And the last, that you will found in every “civilized country” : Waste and computer cathode ray tubes that will pollute the surrounding soil with heavy metals, PVC plastics and other flame retardants, all products as toxic as carcinogenic (lead, mercury, barium, beryllium, cadmium …), all seasoned with some old windshields and various rubble on the edge of a forest in the Seine et Marne. And as often these dumps are located in the vicinity of cultures (here it was a wheat fields located a few tens of meters). Bon appetit !

Two extremes on urban transport and pollution. The good example first : cycling and public transport, which are certainly the cleaner means of conveyance, whatever the city where you are.

And now the bad example: a beautiful limousine car, a dream for many … as long as that dream does not turn into a nightmare if you think the stream of CO ² that such equipment may discharge into the atmosphere just to move a or two people and their driver. In fact, this limousine is a symbol of bygone era, that of excessive and reckless over-consumption …

From 21 February to 1 March is taking place the new edition of the Salon International de l’Agriculture. At a time when cumulative economic crisis and ecological crisis, where local production bios or have the wind in their sails, and where we see the same farmers who convert themselves to energy producers through solar photovoltaics, wind or biomass, this show of tomorrow agriculture might be interesting … Well, I just need now to do a small tour

2008 was for Photo-Paysage.com and its English version Landscape-Photo.net a record year, with a number of combined unique visitors who pass the symbolic number of one million (1,062,851 unique visitors to be exact). Once again, thank you all for your loyalty and for the hundreds of messages of encouragement that you sent me or posted in the guest book during the past year.

2008 is a year when I doubled the number of pictures published in the gallery of Photo-Paysage.com & Landscape-Photo.net, and I hope to share with you in 2009 many more photographs of nature and landscapes.

2008 was also a year of change for all of us. First the bursting of the financial bubble, and the hard fall of the economy that succeeded it. An economic crisis that never ends, and many people continue and will continue to suffer its consequences! This can only be a source of great concern for all of us. But a crisis can also be an unexpected opportunity to improve a flawed economic system, a system void any sense of humanity. This year was also quite a change in the election of Barack Obama, a so great symbol… American election can also be a source of hope when it comes to fight in 2009 against another crisis : the ecological crisis.

Rightly, many predict that 2009 will be a pivotal year in order to protect our environment and respond effectively to climate change: at the end of the year in Copenhagen the world will decide -or not- to acquire the necessary resources to the fight against global warming. Therefore hope that these political leaders will make the right choice ! Our future will depend on this !

Some have noted, water is often present in my photographs: coastal landscape, landscapes of lakes, river or rivers, even simple pond with ducks. With its reflections, transparencies, lighting and colors, water whether in natural or urban environment is an aesthetic and photogenic element, that’s for sure. But even if we forget that sometimes the water is a little more than that: this is not a news, but we need sometimes to remember that water is a necessity of Life (example, water = up to 90% of some of our body cells). Water is also a material necessary for an industry that is very-too-greedy. Covering three-quarters of the Earth’s surface, it seems endless. Yet water, and especially drinking water, is a resource distributed unevenly in the world and is scarce in some regions, with the anthology of health problems that entails. When it is less rare, it is often polluted, as is the case for example of many groundwaters, and of course rivers which carrying their polluted alluviums into our big oceans. Bigs, but not enough to prevent heavy metals, variety of chemicals, and even multiple plastic particles in suspension in the water, to be absorbed by plankton and fish. Follow the food chain, you will find it in your plate…

A return to the sender isn’t it ? Let’s think about it…

Who would say seeing this beautiful waterscape that this river, like so many others, carries many pollutants that will sooner or later go into the Atlantic. An ocean pollution which has a level such high that it relegates, by comparison, oil spills and other fuel tanks emptying to simple (but telegenics) anecdotal episodes…

Since 1970, April 22 is the date of celebration of Earth Day, especially on the North American continent. The day of April 22 is little known and little relayed in Europe, as the international day being March 20 or 21 (day of the spring equinox).
